Katie and Nate – NH wedding photographer

I met Katie at the vet where I take my dog. Sid ( the dog) was a cute puppy in for his first set of shots and Katie was swept away! We talked and when I found out that she had a boyfriend, I popped the question: ” Are you guys thinking about getting married? Do you have a photographer? Here let me give you a card and a CD of samples.”

Months later – and a few trips to the vet for more shots and the like, I got an email from Katie. “Nate ( finally) asked me to marry him – we’re getting married in the fall – will you be our photographer!”

So the other day I finally met Nate and the three ( I left Sid at home) of us wandered around Newmarket shooting engagement photos. Katie is a natural – should she change carrers, she could easily model and it didn’t take Nate long to warm to the process. We had a great time…now I can’t wait till their wedding.

Here’s a few photos from the shoot.6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE6-4-09 KATIE and NATE

Meridith and Ben – NH wedding photography

This weekend Roger Ramirez ( my colleague at Chariot Photo – www.chariotphoto.com -) and I were on New Hampshire’s Squam Lake shooting Meridith and Ben’s wedding – how else can it be described except for incredible! After a week’s worth of cold rain, the weather broke Saturday morning – the sun shone, the temperature rose…and the mosquitos and black flies were caught unaware, so no bug issues to complicate an outdoor wedding. The only sounds competing with the officiant were loons calling each other and the water lapping at the shore.

One of the great things about doing wedding photography is being around so much positive energy. I know it sounds pretty corny, but with all that love and joy in the air, there’s just no room for anyone to be grouchy!

When it was time to shoot some photos of the pair, we decided on trying to get to an overgrown  point sticking out into the lake. The couple ( they are truley a can-do couple) jumped in a rowboat and started across to the spot. When Ben stopped to take off his jacket, Meridith grabbed the oars and kept on rowing – no weak female model here! They stopped to climb up on a raft, Ben picked his new wife up…and one of the sweetest moments of the day happened!

Here’s some photos from the weekend.

Steph and Tucker – NH wedding photography

After a few days of unseasonably hot weather, Saturday brought a perfect day – no humidity, temperatures in the low ’70′s – one of those perfect late May in New England days. And for Steph and Tucker the day couldn’t have been better – they got married!

Steph is one of the most in the moment full of life people I’ve ever come across. Nothing seems to shake her ( except when she realized she and Tucker were the only ones on the dance floor, at which point she made sure everyone at the reception joined them), her laugh is infectious, and she just beams with positive energy. Tucker, on the surface, is the quieter more reserved part of the duo…but that’s only on the surface. When you get to know him he is a perfect compliment to Steph.

The wedding was terrific – here’s a few photos from the day.

Opening Day

Saturday was opening day for my wedding season. The first one of the year always gives me butterflies in the stomach – is all my equipment really ready, have I forgotten anything, do I still remember how to shoot a wedding! It’s like being a kid and shooting your first wedding all over again.
Well, the equipment was fine, I was fine, the bride and groom…well they were nothing short of awesome. Judy and Darren were married in a small ceremony in Southern Massachusetts, followed a couple of hours later by a great reception. In between we stopped by a beach for photos.( they are really hardy souls – it may have been sunny but the wind was blowing and it was a very chilly New England not-quite-Spring day. After the beach we visited a couple of neat old New England buildings to shoot more before finally bowing to the temperature of the day.
Here are a few of my favorites from the day.3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN3-14-09 JUDY AND DARREN

Bridal Show

Today was the  bridal show in Portsmouth, NH sponsored by The Bay, 98.7 FM (http://www.987thebay.com) – and it was a testament to the hardy nature of Maine and New Hampshire brides ( and a few grooms too) – an overnight storm dumped a fresh half foot of snow on top of the ice-covered streets and walks. Undaunted, 200 brides – and assorted Moms, fiancees and other support friends showed up at the Frank Jones Center to view exhibits, lingere shows, and various vendors – including me.

Here’s a few photos from the day. Directly across from my booth was e-Clips Salon where I shot a few photos. If you want to check them out ( they do great work!) , they are on Islington Street in Portsmouth, NH. Give them a call at 603-427-5555.

First place!

I’ve been at the photography game a long time, and I have won enough awards over the years that I thought I was over the rush of awards. The Wedding Photojournalists Association ( WPJA) – a group I am a member of – has 4 contests a year, drawing judges from some mighty lofty places – often pulitzer prize winning photographers, some of the best shooters in the world.

Joining WPJA isn’t as easy as sending in your check – they have a selection process that is rigerous enough that when selected a person knows they’ve been invited into a prestigious group.

So when the email came that the results were in from the 3rd quarter contest, I linked over to see what I have come to know are some incredible photographs. As I skipped around through categories looking at the photos, I couldn’t believe my eyes – in the reception category a photo of mine was first!

It’s from Erica and Jeremy’s wedding and I’ve included some others from that day to share.

If you want to see all the contest results, go to http://www.wpja.com. The contest results are on the front page.

Western Pennsylvania wedding

Watching the Steelers thrash the Patriots today got me to thinking about a wedding I shot this summer in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania, not far from Pittsburgh. Ashley and Ben came home ( they both work in the Middle East) for their wedding and were married in the mountains at Ashley’s parents country home. An amazing couple blessed with equally amazing family combined to make an unforgetable weekend.

Here’s a few photos to share.

Nina and Rob

Early on a recent Sunday morning I hooked up with Nina and Rob to shoot engagement photos – we spent 3 hours walking all over Boston, shooting tons of photos and having a ball. They are one of the easiest couples I’ve ever worked with – and so comfortable with each other – and a camera – that the whole shoot was a cakewalk. Their wedding should be a super time if the esession is any indication.
